Work conditions
- Outdoor work environment with occasional indoor shop work.
- Exposure to noise, dust and varying temperatures.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting through the shift.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
What you will do
- Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain refrigeration units on rail cars and semi-trailers.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled services.
- Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, mechanical and control system issues.
- Repair or replace compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, sensors, wiring, and related components.
- Conduct leak detection, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging procedures in compliance with MOPIA
- Inspect and repair diesel-powered refrigeration unit components.
- Compete work order, maintenance records, and inspection reports accurately.
- Ensure equipment meets safety, operational and regulatory standards.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform field service work when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Collaborate with operations personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
What you will bring
- Journeyperson Mechanic, Technician certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience working on transport refrigeration systems such as:
- Carrier Transicold units
- Thermo King units
- Other rail and trailer refrigeration systems
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, diesel engines, and control circuits.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and work in various weather conditions.
- Welding, fabrication and diesel mechanic experience considered an asset.
- Strong diagnostics and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and committed to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
