Work conditions
- Outdoor work environment with occasional indoor shop work.
- Exposure to welding fumes, noise, dust and varying temperatures.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting through the shift.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
What you will do
- Perform railcar repairs including structural, mechanical, and fabrication-related welding tasks.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, repair procedures and work orders.
- Fabricate, fit, and weld steel components using approved welding procedures.
- Conduct repairs on railcar bodies, underframe, hoppers, tanks, and associated components.
- Operate welding and fabrication equipment including FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, grinders, and other shop tools.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
- Maintain accurate repair records and documentation.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with shop housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with supervisors, inspectors, and fellow tradespeople to complete projects efficiently.
What you will bring
- Valid Journeyperson Welder Certification (Red Seal preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of welding and fabrication experience.
- Proficiency in FCAW and SMAW welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
- Experience operating fabrication equipment and power tools.
- Strong understanding of safe work practices.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Reliable transportation and strong attendance record.
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license.
- Previous railcar, railway, heavy equipment, or industrial repair experience.
- CWB welding certification
- Skid Steer, Truck Mounted Crane, Aerial Work Platform, Telehandler, Front End Loader, or Trackmobile experience.
