Journeyperson Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Journeyperson Shop Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of equipment, vehicles, and machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations.

About the work

Work conditions

  • Indoor shop environment with occasional outdoor work.

  • Exposure to welding fumes, noise, dust and varying temperatures.

  • Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting through the shift.

  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Physical requirements

  • Lift, carry, push and pull materials, tools, and components weighing up to 50lbs independently and heavier items with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.

  • Frequently stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

  • Perform repetitive movements involving the hands, wrists, arms and shoulders while using hand and power tools.

  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined or restricted spaces.

  • Climb ladders, steps, and equipment safely.

  • Work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, grease, fumes, vibration, and outdoor weather conditions.

What you will do

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues.
  • Complete inspections and identify equipment deficiencies.
  • Repair and replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Operate diagnostics tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company policies, manufacturer specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with emergency repairs and breakdowns as required.
  • Support and mentor apprentices when needed.

What you will bring

  • Certified Journeyperson Light Duty Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Truck Transport Mechanic or equivalent trade certification.
  • Valid driver’s License; Class 1A or air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with heavy duty trucks, trailers, agricultural equipment, or industrial machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
